Alex: There's this thing I like, about, it's kind of crazy, Skatopia and now this Pittsburgh scene, the bowl that [Mike, Greg, and Dave] built, is that, the idea of skateboarding, a skateboard bowl or pool as an amusement park ride. Not as something that you master but rather something that literally takes you for a ride. I think that's such a great way of looking at skating in a way.
SK8TC: Yeah yeah, that's why that term Salbaland is so funny, because it is like a DisneyLand for us skateboarders. We go on our little rides. I think that's a big part of like skating roundwall vs flatwall ... Alex: Right. SK8TC: ... you tend to let it throw you around, it tells you where you're gonna go ... Alex: It's so great. Right. I mean vert ramps are great, I'm not that good of a skater, I enjoy myself, I do a couple little tricks ... SK8TC: Fuck that, you rip! Alex: But you know, vert ramps and stuff, the only vert ramp I really ride now is at FDR skatepark. It's my hometown, it's there, really solid, kind of burly, but that's it. Whenever I go to another skatepark and there's a pool there, like at a Vans park or at Skater Island up in Rhode Island, of course you're gonna gravitate toward the bowl. Why wouldn't you? SK8TC: That's the unique thing (to ride). |
