" First Day at the Pool "

If you ask some of the older guys that skate the Pool about their first day you're guaranteed one crazy story. I'm not that old but here's mine.
At the ripe age of 13, in the spring of 1986, I went to the Cambridge Pool for the first time. I'd heard about how gnarly the pool was to skate in: 12' deep, 3' of vert, one huge fucking kink where the trani meets the vert and something like 40-50' in diameter. As an added bonus the pool happened to be in one of the sketchier parts of town. While skating you had to keep an eye out for either cops looking to bust your ass or thugs ready to kick your ass. For a thirteen year old kid there was plenty to anticipate. You also had to deal with the older skaters who had a tendency to be real dicks 'cause the Pool was theirs and anyone else could go fuck themselves as far as they were concerned.
