We met this guy on the bus from Madrid to Alicante. He taught us the expression "puta madre" and gave us issues of the Spanish skate mag "Dog Way" to read. Once we reached Alicante he showed us right to where Fony lives. The only Spanish I can speak is the little I picked up on that trip, but the amazing thing is how the language of skateboarding bashes through barriers. Words like kickflip, tailslide, funbox, and vert mean the same things everywhere. Punk rock and hardcore crosses those lines too. Listen to some Minor Threat, even the Pixies, and you're ready to be a foreign diplomat.
